Questions About Trade Show Insurance for Exhibitors

Why Do Exhibitors Need Trade Show Liability Insurance?

Exhibitors need trade show liability insurance to cover common claims, like:

  • Medical bills for slips, trips, and falls
  • Repair costs for venue damage from your booth
  • Legal fees for wrongful claims from customers

You may be asked to provide your own policy rather than receive blanket coverage from the event itself. With ACT, our insurance puts you in control — customize your coverage and manage your policy yourself without waiting for exhibitor managers to take care of claims.

What is an Additional Insured for a Trade Show?

An additional insured (AI) for a trade show is a third party you add to your insurance policy, like the exhibitor manager, event, venue, or city.

Adding an AI to your policy allows you to extend coverage to them if something goes wrong. For example, if a visitor trips over an electrical cord from your booth, they could try to hold you, the event, the organizers, and even the expo hall responsible for their medical bills and lost wages. In this case, your policy is designed to protect you and everyone else listed as an additional insured.

Keep in mind, AIs cannot be friends, other exhibitors, another business you own, employees, or yourself.

How Much Does it Cost to be a Vendor at a Trade Show?

It can cost anywhere from $500 to over $5,000 to be a vendor at a trade show, depending on factors such as:

  • The size of your booth
  • The cost per square foot
  • Vendor application fees
  • Insurance costs
  • Venue expenses
  • Travel and lodging
  • Booth design and layout
  • Product inventory

Your total trade show costs depend on how much you’re ready to invest, the size of the event, your booth space, and whether you’re renting or own your displays. To save some cash, consider smaller shows, take advantage of early bird registration discounts, and invest in your own booth supplies.

How Much is a $1 Million Trade Show Liability Insurance Policy?

A $1 million trade show liability insurance policy is $24.25 per month with ACT Pro and $49 per event with ACT Go. Both policies include a $1 million per occurrence limit and a $2 million aggregate limit for general liability coverage.

For each claim you file (per occurrence), the maximum amount of coverage you can receive is $1 million. The maximum amount of coverage you can get per policy period (aggregate) is $2 million. If the total cost from all claims filed in one policy period exceeds the aggregate limit, you will be responsible for the remaining costs.
