There’s no one more meticulous and detail oriented than artists — you see every small element and keep all the right tools on hand. But even the most prepared artists can still experience accidents they couldn’t have prevented.
Sudden weather, runaway scooters, and raging tornadoes can wreak havoc on your pop-up tents and booth displays. Your best defense? An insurance policy you can count on.
Today we are looking at three real-life ACT claims that occurred at events (and sharing how much we paid out for them) so you can know how to best protect yourself in the future.
Case #1: Stormy Misfortune
Claim Costs: $667 Policy Type: ACT Show
Weather can change in an instant, making outdoor events a bit of a gamble. One event had an unexpected storm roll in during peak hours. The sudden wind picked up one policyholder’s tent, sending it flying into the neighboring booth. The other vendor’s tent and products were damaged in the mishap.
The policyholder was able to file a claim with ACT and cover the cost of the damage, allowing the neighboring vendor’s tent to be replaced.
Despite tying down their tent, the insured still experienced an unfortunate event. Wind gusts can be stronger than we think, so it’s important to make sure your tents and umbrellas are secured. It’s always a good idea to have an insurance policy that can back you up in an unexpected accident so you don’t have to pay for a claim out of your own pocket.
Case #2: Scooter Catasrophe
Claim Costs: $10,000 Policy Type: ACT Annual
You’ve likely seen electric scooters rise in popularity recently. While they are a great way to get around town, the number of scooter crashes is also on the rise. A few strangers decided to stroll through an outdoor street fair on some of these scooters when one person lost control. They crashed into a vendor’s glass art display, damaging several products.
Luckily, the vendor is an ACT policyholder who has the additional coverage needed to insure their products. They were able to file a claim and receive a payout to cover the cost of the supplies* it took to create the glass pieces.
You can’t always control what’s happening with the people around you, which can be frustrating when someone else accidentally damages your artwork. That is why we have Tools, Supplies, & Inventory Coverage. It’s an optional coverage you can add on to our ACT Annual policy. It allows you to insure your artwork, the supplies you use to create it, and the items you use for your event booth.
*Tools, Supplies, & Inventory Coverage (Inland Marine) can only payout on Actual Cash Value and not Retail Value. This means we can only pay for the cost of the supplies to create a product and not the value of the final product ready for sale.
Case #3: Tornado Troubles
Claim Costs: $8,000 Policy Type: ACT Annual
“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore!” If a twister could take Dorothy’s house to Oz, it can surely send your booth flying to a new location. This was an unfortunate case for one policyholder. After setting up their booth a day early for an event, a tornado came through town and destroyed their tent, display, and product inventory.
While your tent tie downs may be no match for a tornado, your ACT Insurance policy may be. This policyholder was able to have their claim covered and receive funds for the damage done.
Leaving your items booth overnight at an event can leave it susceptible to theft or unexpected weather conditions. Tools, Supplies, & Inventory Coverage is a great optional coverage you can add on to your Annual policy to protect your stuff against theft and damage. If something happens to your business items, products, or booth, you may be covered for the costs accrued.
